Spelling and Vocabulary practice
Regular homework procedures: See link for extra sounds and practice!
Spelling: An independent spelling program is critical for student’s to take responsibility for their learning. Often when students have a choice of words to learn, they will transfer the words into their writing. Study styles consist of auditory, visual and kinesthetic practices. By 5th grade, for the majority of students, sound patterns and spelling rules have been set in place. Research shows that students who choose at least half of their own words, commit the word to successful memory.
Vocabulary: Wordly Wise is a program that teaches learning base words, word origins and multiple meaning through expository reading lessons. Students are required to practice the words in context, through lessons A-D. Lesson E is graded based on complete and correct answers.
