Shade made and agreement with red diamond and black banner that if he brings them the children so they can use there powers then they will give him a human form.

But he is tricking the overlords saying they have the power to be invisible. After he gets his human body back he could still want to destroy the overlords.

gosh shade now we know the answers to like all of our seminar questions, overall nevrrr trust a machine, because they will do what is logically “right” or do something to help themself

Actually shade didn’t turn bad he just betrayed them so he could get an actual human body. He still wanted to stop the overlords.

i didn’t finish the book, but i’m planning to. from what i’ve read so far, they’re in a cemetery? and the “sub” was attacked? i dunno, its weird. but i am to the part where drum says (on pg. 250) “‘Shade wouldn’t have had time’ said Drum. ‘Not if they went in through the deck. That was the whole point of the automatically locking hatches and having us all die defending each corridor. To gice Shad enough time to download himself to another location.’That’s not true!’ said Ella-but she didn’t say it with any confidence. ‘I know that’s what he lanned,’ said Drum softly. ‘I used to talk to the oldsters too, remember? And i know that it would take quite some time for him to do it. I think that for better… or worse… we’re no longer Shade’s Children.’”

that’s all i’ve read so far, but im getting there! end of the book, here i come!

on page 251 it has a really confusing “archive- communications test: First contact” thing, and its confusing me… grrr

    June 6, 2010 at 5:29 pm
  13. emmigrl13

also, i know that they explained it in an archive thing (btw, what is an archive anyways? what does it mean?) but what is a cache? does it store emergency food? cuz that’s all i got out of this archive thing.

also, can anyone tell me in a simple way what a “deceptor” is??????

    June 6, 2010 at 5:31 pm
  15. emmigrl13

is shade actually good? on page 255 it says: “‘If he did get away, it was at the cost of everyone in the Sub,” said Drum bitterly. ‘They’ll all be in the Meat Factory now….’ ‘Ah, Drum,’ interrupted Shade, from the carriage’s speakers. ‘You never did have any faith in me. While I greatly… greatly regret the loss of our people, it was pure good luck that i escaped. You see, i wasn’t even there.’”

emma : a deceptor is prty much like cap that is made in wi=hich the person wearing it will be invincible to the creatures. However, they cant use their powers while having their deceptors on

and, did ella and drum die together???

    June 6, 2010 at 7:45 pm

  24. emmigrl13

did ninde and gold-eye live? cuz when i read the ending, i thought they all held hands and died together; all four of them, and then they were turned into a Myrmidon or a Tracker or something.

also, if they were captured, would they be able to be turned into ferrets? or just Myrmidons, Trackers, and Wingers? hmmmm…

i think shade is still mostly bad cause in all he IS the one who went on the side of the creatures

    June 6, 2010 at 7:57 pm

    June 7, 2010 at 6:24 pm
  32. Mila Lamb

and when gold-eye and ninde decide not to “do it” it’s because they are afraid she will get pregnent right?

  33. Mila Lamb

I think that the author is foreshadowing with the name” shade” like he is “shady”

  35. Eleanor Frye

i agree with mila in her point that shades name implies that he is shady, but then, we find out that he really is being taken over by the machine/computer that he has become. i believe that this is still his fault in the way that he put himself into this problem. he needed to take into consideration what the result of his actions could be, and in this case which would be that the computer would overthrow Robert himself. I think that garth nix has done an amazing job on this book. With this many red herrings, it is hard to realize what the truth is behind all of it is, but if you follow along, it becomes a really good read, as it has for me.

i like how garth nix included some romance in this book

i knew that gold eye would get together with ninde sooner or later!!

    June 10, 2010 at 8:10 pm
  38. Eleanor Frye

mila: yeah, they didnt have sex because they didnt have protection and knew that she would be killed immediatly by the creatures if she was pregnant, or put up for dissection

  39. Eleanor Frye

btw i have a question, did anybody else in the sub live, or were they all killed? just clarifying
