Very horrible book. If the law hear was that children could only live up to 14 years I would go crazy

i really like this story, the cover is kind of misleading though, it describes the robot thingys differently in the book than they look on the cover. but i do like how discriptive the book is, i think that Garth Nix has written quite a good beginning to this book. I do have a question though, how many people live in the submarine?? are all of them over 14? or are some of them younger then 14 and have some of the older people in the book had children with others? if so, that would be a cool twist if one of the people had ROBOT children. :)

  17. Carolyn Hunt-Gonzalez

now they are together, because the other ppl saved him after he almost got killed by those creatures, i have one question though, like are the creatures humans in creature form or who are they?

    May 20, 2010 at 9:38 am

    May 22, 2010 at 1:10 pm
  23. Michael Rogers

right Will! Yes Shade is a computer from a time before the change!!! He was once a great scientist. All those over the age of 14 are now creatures. Keep reading

i seriously dont get the book. but, i just finished it. its very confusing. i dont exactly get what their goal is… :/ are they just trying to save the ppl from the “meat factory” or whatever? or are they trying to kill the monster thingys? i dont get science fiction in general…!

    May 23, 2010 at 3:27 pm
  25. emmigrl13

oh, and for those who are reading, i didn’t finish the WHOLE book, i only finished the part we were supposed to read. i dont want to read on… :( I get that Shade is a computer or whatever, but i dont get what is happening. i think Ferrets are cute! and what the heck are the Myrmadones (i think that’s how you spell it… if not sorry)? and what are Trackers?????? grr this book is very confuzzling

    May 23, 2010 at 3:33 pm
  26. Carolyn Hunt-Gonzalez

ya i agree with emma. this book is very confusing, at least right now. All the “ferrets’, “Myrmadones”, and “Trackers” are working together i think, well at least i think that they are all send by the people who have those giant children trap areas. If anyone thinks I am right or wrong tell me please!

    May 23, 2010 at 6:34 pm
  27. Carolyn Hunt-Gonzalez

and the question about what they are trying to do, i understand that. so yes, they ARE trying to save people from the meat factory because that is where they came from and they know the terrible fate of the people who havemt escaped

    May 23, 2010 at 6:36 pm
  28. Carolyn Hunt-Gonzalez

Also, their main goal is not to kill all of the creatures but they have to if the creaters are going after them. Also the creatures are sent from the meat house because the people opperating the meat house know that they have escaped, so they are trying to kill them with the creatures before they rescue anyone else

    May 23, 2010 at 6:37 pm
  29. emmigrl13

ok, the ferrets are little animal things that eat your flesh… at least that’s what i think i read… i read that they have little red eyes… scary!!!!!! O_o

and how many of the overlord tribes are there? are there just 2 the red diamond and theblue stars?

    May 24, 2010 at 9:42 pm
  41. Mila Lamb

Ok I keep on trying to figure out what this poem means but IDK
“A score of seven Marched the”
    sevens mighty
To fight the foe Take the trees
A battle of bravery Red the raiment
Of diamond death Blue the baneful
A star falls suddenly War is won

I know it has something to do with defeating the overlords I just don’t know how.

    May 24, 2010 at 9:51 pm
  42. Mila Lamb

sorry the poem got really screwed up but it’s on page 66

    May 24, 2010 at 9:51 pm
  43. Mila Lamb

i think the poem may have something to do with this
these are the groups they travel in
    screamers:1
    Trackers:3
    Ferrets:5
    marmadukes:7
    wingers:9
so maybe it has something to do with the marmadukes
