In my case, connecting a USB mouse worked. Have you tried multiple USB mice? It sometimes takes Windows a minute or two to detect USB devices. In my case, it took Windows a few minutes to detect a USB mouse. I just had to be patient.

How were you able to get to do anything? My touch pad doesn’t work and a mouse won’t work either. Even if I knew what to do, I don’t know how I could do it, like download a new driver, etc.

It does. It worked in Leopard, continued to work when I upgraded to Snow leopard, and continues to work in Lion upgrade. I can’t imagine why it doesn’t work for you…

I had the identical problem, but after “random” quirks starting happening with my usb keyboard and mouse… I have multiple (14) generic labled devices listed under the Human Interface Devices – not sure but it’s stable now. The Apple device drivers now list.

Huh. This happened again on the same server! I’m very glad I blogged about it.

I ended up deleting the entire “/Library/Application Support/Apple/Remote Desktop” folder. Seemed to make ARD happy instantly.

Thanks man, on a client’s server the .plist was 99GB in size! You saved the day. By the way after repairing this problem I had to delete some cyrus .seen files and had to rebuild cyrus user databases to get things running smoothly again.

Awesome! I’d been fighting with ARD on that server for months. I posted on Apple’s Discussions and did everything under the sun with no avail. I was almost ready to do a clean OS install as other problems cropped up, but something told me to give Disk Warrior a try. I’m glad I did.

Thanks for this. It saved me a lot of time.
Deleting /Library/Application Support/Apple/Remote Desktop/Client/CacheUpload.plist fixed my problem. My 10.4.11 xserve had a 40GB ARD crash log.
